In this freezing weather we all want to make sure that our homes are warm and toasty.
Unfortunately there are many things that can go wrong and stop your heating system from working.
One of these common issues is that the boiler condensate pipes, especially the ones terminated externally, are prone to freezing. If the pipes do freeze, your boiler will choke and will stop working. It is therefore recommended that you prepare yourself to avoid such issues or deal with them. When planning to get a new boiler installed, always ensure that the installer terminates the condensate pipe inside the property. Only take the pipe out if there is no other option available.
If however, you do end up with an external condensate pipe, then make sure it is properly insulated and terminated properly and in accordance with manufactures instructions. Despite all the precautions, if the condensate pipe does freeze, then please pour warm water on the condensate pipe to get rid of the frozen ice and unblock the pipe. Hope this helps.
Also always make sure you have a good gas engineer / heating engineer’s number handy should you need their assistance. Especially in this cold weather, all the gas engineers are extremely busy.
